Veterinarians Celebrated in Toronto for 250 Years of Contributions to Human and Animal Health at the Largest Veterinary Conference in Canadian History, March 24-27 2011
TORONTO, March 14 /CNW/ - In recognition of World Veterinary Year 2011,and in conjunction with the largest international veterinary conference
in Canadian history, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has proclaimed the week of
March 21 to 27 as "Veterinary Week" in Toronto, Ontario.
Mayor Rob Ford's "Veterinary Week" proclamation recognizes that, "…veterinarians have provided significant contributions to humankind in
the past 250 years, by safeguarding the health of members of the
family, as well as playing a key role in public health issues such as
food quality, safety and security, protection of the environment and
global biodiversity…." World Veterinary Year 2011 is recognized in countries around the world and celebrates 250 years of improvements to both human and animal health since the first veterinary school opened in Lyon, France in 1761.
To keep veterinary professionals abreast of the rapid changes in
veterinary care, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and
the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) are teaming up to
host the largest international veterinary conference in Canadian
history from March 24-27, 2011 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre
in downtown Toronto. More than 3,600 veterinary care providers from
around the world will be in attendance to present the latest research
and information on hundreds of topics concerning animal health and
welfare.
As we celebrate 250 years of veterinarians protecting the health of the
