SESSION SPOTLIGHT
One Health: The Urban Animal Reality, 11:00 October 20
The health of the animals that live in our homes is a reflection of the changing urban eco-system and directly impacts the health of our family units and the communities we live in. According to CDC, approximately 75% of recently emerging infectious diseases affecting humans are diseases of animal origin (approximately 60% of all human pathogens are zoonotic). How can we all live together? How can we better anticipate the potential health consequences of this close association? Perhaps we need a new approach and a common understanding of One Health that incorporates managing the interface between eco-system health, animal health and human health. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is an active player in this global evolution. Dr. Kathy Scott, CFIA will facilitate our understanding on this important subject.
