The good, the bad and the ugly - according to CFHS

The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS) published an enlightening article highlighting the good, the bad and the ugly changes made to animal welfare in 2012.

In summary, CFHS was able to pinpoint a satisfying number of positive advances for pets and animals in 2012 with the setbacks and disappointments numbering far less.

Decisions that helped advance animal welfare (the Good) included a number of provincial legislations ranging from a ban on cropping dog's ears for aesthetic purposes to the establishment of an animal welfare body to help promote better caring for animals.
Setting the industry back (the Bad) were a few news stories that cited Canadian allowances for dog and cat fur imported from China and a new aquarium in Toronto will be stocked with sharks caught from the wild.

The Ugly composed of items any animal welfare organization would find disappointing: The Saskatchewan SPCA reported a rise in do-it-yourself pet surgeries; security services deem environmental and animal rights groups as an extremist threat to the safety of Canadians.
