Sled dog survivors up for adoption

Earlier this week, the Whistler Sled Dog Co. announced that 86 survivors of the infamous sled-dog massacre are now in need of new homes.

The WSDC, which adopted the dogs after the 2010 incident, voted to end operations last Monday citing financial struggles. The majority of the dogs will be cared for by Whistler Animals Galore (WAG), while 14 are already at an SPCA shelter.

BC SPCA manager of operations Bob Bush told The Province the dogs had undergone basic evaluations. "We're confident they're adoptable in the long run," he said.

According to The Province article, some industry insiders are concerned the fallout is ending up in the hands of non-profits and that WSDC failed to follow the rules published in 2012 as the Sled Dog Code of Practice.
