Consumer Protection Legislation in Nova Scotia

Is a National framework for consumer protection better than provincial legislation?

In a letter to Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations concerning revisions to Nova Scotia’s Consumer Protection Act, CWTA submitted that Nova Scotians would ultimately be better served by having one set of rules for wireless contracts that apply equally, in all parts of the country. CWTA notes that the CRTC has received formal applications for, and has begun a process leading towards, a national framework governing wireless contracts. CWTA recommends that Nova Scotia give that process time to conclude before finalizing any detailed legislative requirements that would add millions of dollars in costs for business, customers and the government in Nova Scotia.
