Industry Collaboration for Extrusion Porosification Technology

For several months four companies have been working together to develop an Extrusion Porosification Technology (EPT) pilot in Europe with the goal of creating a research and development line. The four companies involved in EPT are Clextral, DIANA Pet Food, Lesaffre Ingredients Services, and Triballat Noyal. EPT was developed and patented by Clextral and is a drying technology that may challenge previously used drying methods.

EPT produces porous powders that have improved rehydration and flowability. EPT can be used for powdered milk, instant coffee, and other food ingredients. EPT dries viscous products using 20-40% less energy than spray drying. In 2016 the pilot line will become available to food manufacturers to allow them to create new products and improve their drying techniques.
