Zoetis Expands Manufacturing Capabilities

Zoetis Inc. has finished a 19,000 square-foot expansion at its manufacturing facility in Lincoln, Nebraska. Zoetis and its predecessors have been located in Lincoln since the early 1900’s. The Lincoln location employs approximately 500 people and up to 30 new positions will accompany the expansion. The plant currently produces BOVI-SHIELD GOLD®, RESPISURE ONE® , RIMADYL®, and SYNOVEX®.

Industry Collaboration for Extrusion Porosification Technology

For several months four companies have been working together to develop an Extrusion Porosification Technology (EPT) pilot in Europe with the goal of creating a research and development line. The four companies involved in EPT are Clextral, DIANA Pet Food, Lesaffre Ingredients Services, and Triballat Noyal. EPT was developed and patented by Clextral and is a drying technology that may challenge previously used drying methods.

EPT produces porous powders that have improved rehydration and flowability. EPT can be used for powdered milk, instant coffee, and other food ingredients. EPT dries viscous products using 20-40% less energy than spray drying. In 2016 the pilot line will become available to food manufacturers to allow them to create new products and improve their drying techniques.

Tuffy’s Pet Foods Inc. Opens New Manufacturing Facility

The pet food company, Tuffy’s Pet Foods Inc. has opened a new facility. This new facility boasts 130,000 sqft of modern manufacturing space and 50,000 sqft of warehouse space. The facility formally opens on August 19th, 2015. Tuffy’s has been manufacturing dry dog and cat foods for over 50 years. Tuffy’s currently produces food for NutriSource, Pure Vita, Natural Planet, and several co-manufactured products.

The new facility cost $70 million USD and is designed with food safety, efficiency, and flexibility in mind. Tuffy’s has combined technologically advanced equipment with manufacturing process segregation. The new facility will produce 50% more food compared to their original location. The original location will provide soft treat production capacity and warehouse space.
