Future Thought Leader Scholarships Announced

The Summit for Urban Animal Strategies is pleased to announce the 2012 Future Thought Leader Scholarships.

Joanne Moss, Executive Director -Canadian Foundation for Animal Assisted Support Services
Founder and president of The Canadian Foundation for Animal Assisted Support Services and FHL Consulting a capacity building human resource practice that inspires discovering, developing, designing, and delivering authentic change from the inside out. Joanne believes that to achieve the best results it is important to partake in clear and open conversations. She is passionate about collaboration and has a strong interest in community support.

Michelle Lem, Founder - Community Veterinary Outreach
Founding director of Community Veterinary Outreach, a non-profit veterinary-based organization whose focus is on community health for people and pets. Their emphasis is on supporting pet-owning socially marginalized populations,
for whom the human-animal bond is most significant.Michelle believes in the practice of servant leadership and that by serving community as a profession,veterinarians emerge as stronger leaders and role models.

Each year a selection of future thought leaders are awarded the SUAS Future Leader Scholarship. Recipients are granted access to that year`s Urban Animal Strategies Summit, participation in these summits provides unique insight into executive collaboration at the highest levels of Canada's companion animal industry.

These scholarships are both valued at up to $1,500 which includes:

• $795 for the Summit registration fee (includes meals and accommodation)
• $705 travel subsidy

merit criteria

To be eligible for this award:

• The nominee may not be an existing Alumnus of the SUAS
• The nominee must be a permanent full-time employee of an organization in the companion animal industry and have at least five years of work experience or a degree/certificate in a related discipline
• The nominee must demonstrate leadership skills in the companion animal industry and a specific interest in urban animal strategies
• The nominee must show evidence of a career path aimed toward a leadership position
• The nominee must be nominated by a current SUAS Alumnus in good standing

Vision:To gather executive level thought leaders who can advance the state of the art in urban animal strategies

Mission: To promote strategies that build healthy communities for pets and people and to recognize those who achieve success

This sixth annual gathering of Industry leaders takes place from October 19 - 22 at the Fairmont Chateau, Montebello, Quebec.

As we are learning, Animal Health and Wellness is directly related to human health in our communities. For this reason the 2011 agenda may facilitate the most strategic conversation to be brought forward to a Summit.
