Since 2004, the BC SPCA humane education team has continued to engage and teach children about animals to become advocates in their local communities across the province.
The humane education department created the BC SPCA Kids Club, that has now engaged more than 5,000 children. Through the Kids Club, children can enjoy a monthly e-kids newsletter that provides information and ideas on how to create more humane communities, fun animal-themed workshops, and an extensive summer camp program.
In order to reach more children, the BC SPCA has also involved teachers in the education process. The department provides development of animal welfare curriculum resources for BC classrooms, a monthly e-teacher newsletter to update teachers on new ideas for animal welfare learning and Bark! magazine, sent to children four times a year and is distributed to BC schools and libraries.
