New Medical App Impacts Patient Health

Seven Canadian healthcare organizations recently announced they are creating a more collaborative industry to launch new electronic tools that will help Canadians use their medications safely and appropriately.

This latest innovation in the Knowledge is the Best Medicine (KiBM) program will help Canadians better manage their own healthcare.

The new tools include MyMedRec, a free iPhone and iPad app, and website, which have been developed with input from Canadian patient groups and healthcare provider organizations. MyMedRec allow patients and caregivers to have their medication and immunization records at hand.

Features included in the App:
  • Refill and dose reminders
  • Storing of medication histories and multiple patient profiles
  • E-mail and picture capabilities
  • Contact information of prescribers and pharmacies
The app will also assist patients and caregivers to compile a full list of their medications whether prescription, over-the-counter or natural health products, and share the information with their healthcare providers as they see fit.

Why is this important to you?  It is yet another example of a Super Portal and industry wide approach that will have impact. Independent web presence is unlikely to have such impact.
