Karen Felsted kicks off 2012 Summit sessions with a conversation about declining pet populations

We all know the outcomes of the 2008 Recession: Job loss, financial stress and economic suffering. But for many families, the wounds cut deeper than employment and real estate. Just how large a toll did the recession have on pets and pet families? What other societal trends impact the companion animal industry and in what ways?

Karen Felsted, current treasurer of VetPartners, will lead thought leaders of the companion animal industry in engaging conversations concerning data from the U.S. Pet Ownership and Demographics Sourcebook, the Bayer Veterinary Care Usage Study and many other studies that indicate significant declines in the U.S. pet population, the status of pet health and usage of veterinary care over the last ten years.

Summit Session I: Pet Population, Pet Health and Veterinary Care Trends in the U.S., led by Felsted, will explore the potential implications of these trends that are wide-reaching and impact pets, pet owners, the veterinary profession, public health organizations, animal welfare organizations and others.

Felsted's industry qualifications - past member of the Veterinary Economics’ Editorial Advisory Board, past CEO of the National Commission on Veterinary Economic Issues, current treasurer for the CATalyst Council and a member of the CVPM Board of Directors - promise an insightful and perceptive presentation.
