Several industry service providers are joining forces in Edmonton to enhance community services for pets living in apartments. Apartment Pets, a collaborative effort between the City of Edmonton, Boardwalk Rental Communities, IAMS, PetLynx Corporation, Dogspaw and Sadie's Pet-Stop kicks off 5 October 2012 and will run through 1 December 2012.The program offers gift packages worth $50 to tenants living in selected Boardwalk communities who obtain permanent licenses for their pets by the 1st of December. The packages include IAMS pet food, a PetLynx Lifetime Recovery Subscription as well as other vender specific coupons and offers. IAMS and PetLynx are contributing these values under their National HomeSafe™ Strategy which promotes a lifelong commitment to healthy pets and people in Canadian communities.
Licensing a pet is an affordable way to show care and consideration for a pet. Through the Apartment Pets program, the property manager and first responders will know where they are needed to protect pets in an emergency situation. The program also contributes to healthy and open relationships for tenants and landlords that can ensure pets have the services and programs they require for a satisfying life experience.
The program partners hope Apartment Pets will illuminate a category of pets that is often invisible in the modern urban environment. Data and statistics for the number of pets living in apartments, condominiums and other multi-family dwellings have been difficult to obtain which means they may be overlooked in municipal planning for services, recreation and leisure activities.
