AVMA website wins WMA WebAward

The American Veterinary Medical Association revamped its website in 2012 to create a more personalized and user friendly site.

Last week, the organization announced it had been awarded the Web Marketing Association's Associations Standard of Excellence and Non-Profit Standard of Excellence awards in the 2013 WebAward competition for outstanding Achievement in Web Development

The enhanced AVMA.org site features a "My AVMA" section which allows members to select content directly tailored to their interests and receive news and updates on those selections. The AVMA Knowledge Base, another addition to the remodelled site, allows memebers to organize in one place the AVMA's extensive resources on a single topic, discipline or species, including everything from AVMA policies and press releases to backgrounders and brochures. Another highlight is the Network of Animal Health online discussion forums which allow members to network and communicate with colleagues. The Association also improved site navigation and search capabilities, automated links to related content, produced a mobile-friendly display and more print-friendly pages.

AVMA credits it members for the improvements to the website and the subsequent receipt of awards, stating their comments and feedback are what powered the redesign.

"What's really cool about the award is that you - our members - can take some of the credit for it," says an Oct. 24 news release. "Thanks to your input during design and development of our website, we were able to make significant enhancements to improve your online experience."
