Last October, the Ontario government announced $5.5 million in funding to assist the OSPCA by enhancing the responsiveness of investigators to animal welfare complaints from northern and rural communities. They also said they'd create a squad of specially trained investigators to crack down on puppy and kitten mills.
Its promise to help establish a 24/7 centralized dispatch service for cruelty anywhere in the province was announced Tuesday in the shape of the 310-SPCA number.
"It's exciting and it's easy for people to remember," said executive director of the Barrie SPCA, Melissa Bainbridge. She said during the hot summer months, the local branch has received up to 50 calls a day about people leaving their animals in their cars.
