Created in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Auxiliary to the AVMA, National Pet Week® is dedicated to celebrating America’s more than 200 million pets that enrich our lives each and every day and encourage responsible pet care every day of the year.
Their website is packed with fun facts, games and encourages a variety of activities for people and their pets.
Teachers will find resources to use in the classroom including lessons and activity sheets, and ready-to-use presentations.
Students in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to participate in the Auxiliary’s annual National Pet Week® Poster and Creative Writing Contest. The winning poster and creative writing entry each receives $100.00 and copies of the poster are made available for 2017 National Pet Week® events.
This year’s poster and creative writing theme is "People Who Care Take Their Pet to the Vet" and entry deadline is June 15th, 2016.
