OSPCA Introduces Emergency Response Trailer

Connie Mallory, Chief Inspector for the Ontario SPCA has been travelling across Ontario educating local governments as to the importance of including animals in emergency preparedness plans.

Why is this so important?

  • Animal issues complicate emergency responses
  • Pet-owners unwilling to leave pets behind may refuse to evacuate
  • Pet-owners may attempt to visit unsafe areas
  • Pet-owners need to know animals are welcome in emergency planning
  • Evacuation complications delay emergency response times

To help resolve these issues, municipalities in Ontario can now access the expertise of the Ontario SPCA and emergency response resources such as the new Mobile Rescue Unit. This new, state-of-the-art custom trailer, sponsored by Nutrience, allows rescuers to transport up to 123 rescued animals in a safe, climate-controlled atmosphere.
