ANIMA-Québec announces move from inspection to education

ANIMA-Québec (National Association of Intervention for the Well-Being of Animals) announced it is terminating its inspection activities to focus on animal welfare education and information.

PIJAC Canada executive director Louis McCann said the move to education will benefit the general public, shelters, pet stores and breeders.

"With the help of several organizations like PIJAC Canada, ANIMA-Québec intends to develop a voluntary certification and accreditation program for all pet establishments, including those appearing on internet sites and in classifieds," said McCann.

"We have made a commitment to be involved in the following two working groups: One on the development of certification principles, in light of our expertise in this area, and another on the development of communication tools."

For eleven consecutive years, ANIMA-Québec's primary focus was on the inspection of places of custody of pets. Given that inspection activities are now carried out by several other government supported organizations, ANIMA-Québec will now leverage its expertise in a more efficient way to better meet the needs of the population's safety and welfare of animals.
