Individual Achievement Nominees illuminate commitment to the industry

Four nominees vie for the Urban Animal Industry's highest award in the Individual Achievement category:

1. Erica Coomber, Alberta Animal Services is nominated for the adoption and re-homing programs she has been instrumental in implementing. Erica has worked to develop partnerships with outside rescue agencies and pet stores in the Central Alberta region to maximize the number of animals adopted.

2. Cassandra Hanrahan, Dalhousie University is nominated for her achievements in pioneering research on the human/animal bond. Inter-relatedness of human, other animal, and environmental health and welfare, and the dynamic relationship between all three that affirm our kinship and remind us of our place in the web of life.

3. Kim Monteith, British Columbia SPCA is nominated for her dedication to the animals of B.C. For the past 13 years, Kim has spent days off, evenings, holidays and free time before and after work doing additional outreach on the Downtown Eastside. Kim hands out metal dog tags embossed with her name and home phone number and encourages people to identify their pets and contact her whenever they need to.

4. Betsy Saul, Heal House Call Veterinarian is nominated for her vision to change the way the public view sheltered pets. Founder of Petfinder.com, Betsy is responsible for setting over 25 million pet adoptions in motion. Betsy harnessed the infant technology of the Internet in 1996 and molded it into one of the most successful Web businesses to date. Petfinder is still on a mission to see that no pet is euthanized or lack of a home and to increase the value of the family pet.
