WELFARE - It's National Dog Day

National Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure.

It was founded to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep people safe and bring comfort.

Dogs do truly amazing things for humans - personal protection, law enforcement, assisting the disabled, detecting bombs and drugs, pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage, providing formal and informal therapy, and even detecting diseases and seizures.

It’s a great day to give your dog some extra love and attention, a new toy, special treats or an extra walk.

Some National Dog Day suggested activities include:
  • Adopt a dog
  • Donate blankets or other supplies to an animal rescue organization
  • Take photos and enter the National Dog Day photo contest
  • Give your dog a massage
  • Teach your dog a new trick
  • Send a dog related gift to a friend or relative
