Fido contributes to Maritime SPCAs

Fido (Rogers Wireless and Cable) kicked off the grand opening of five new kiosk locations in Canada's Maritimes with the announcement of a $100,000 commitment to local SPCAs in the region. 

The FidoCARES donation for shelters in Saint John, Fredericton, Charlottetown, Moncton and Halifax will support programs and services for animal protection, care and rehabilitation, advocacy and education.

K9 Casting Call

Your pooch might be famous amongst family and friends for his prowess at chasing the sprinkler or using the cat like a sofa cushion. But Fido is offering dogs across Canada the chance to achieve true fame with the Fido Casting Call 2 contest. 

In search of the next K9 celebrity to star in an upcoming advertisement, Fido is hosting an online photo contest and taking to the streets off-leash parks to find a winner. Live events will be held in several Canadian cities starting mid-August.

Dog owners are encouraged to submit a photo of their superstar at the above link and dog lovers can vote on their favourite dog until 10 September 2012. Recruit your pups biggest fans and have them vote daily.  

ENTER THE CONTEST 

In addition to naming a new VIP (Very Important Pooch), the major mobile company is also taking the opportunity to muster up some charitable support. For every vote registered, Fido will donate $1 to Dog Guides Canada, up to a maximum of $200,000. Dog Guides Canada will use the funds donated to train and place 10 dog guides with Canadians with disabilities. 

Fido Shows Support for St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs

Fido recently announced its support for canine volunteers from the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program with a national 'Good Deeds After Work' contest. 

Throughout the months of March and April, Fido will visit 15 Canadian cities after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with the Good Deeds contest. 

Participants can enter the contest in Toronto, Montréal or Vancouver by sending the word 'Fido' in a text message to the advertised phone number or by finding a Fido team member within one of the cities. Participants will also be eligible for a chance to win prizes such as LG Optimus 2X smartphones and gift certificates worth up to $500 (some conditions may apply). 

For every participant in the contest, Fido will donate one dollar in support of the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, up to a total of $50,000.
