Texting increases 70%

CANADIAN TEXT MESSAGES TOP 35 BILLION IN 2009

Canadians sent 35.3 billion peer-to-peer text messages in 2009, a 70% increase over the 2008 full-year total of 20.8 billion messages. In December 2009 alone, total text messages surpassed 3.7 billion, or approximately 122 million per day. Canadians also sent and received a total of 1.66 billion short code text messages in 2009, representing a 54% increase over the 2008 total of 1.1 billion short code text messages.
