Services for Older Pets Introduced in U.S. Animal Hospital

Goleta, California Airport Animal Hospital announced they will now provide senior pet care services specifically designed to treat the needs of aging cats and dogs, June 20, 2012.

The senior cat and dog care program will focus on preventing and managing chronic health conditions, as well as promoting nutritional counselling and semi-annual veterinary check-ups.

The Airport Animal Hospital vets are determined to work closely with pet owners to determine the right diet for each pet's unique nutritional needs to reduce the chances of chronic health conditions, such as heart disease, kidney disease, thyroid imbalance, cancer, osteoarthritis and Cushing's syndrome.

According to the clinic, larger dogs may be considered "seniors" by age eight or nine, while smaller dogs are often not considered "seniors" until 10 years or older.
