Pet Store Faux Pas?

A revolutionary pet shop in Oregon is creating a stir with local animal welfare groups. The store's unique 'pets for lease' policy is sparking humane and profit debates and complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and with the state attorney general's office. 

But founder of Hannah the Pet Society, Scott Campbell, defends his business model and even claims its primary goal is happier, healthier people. 

“What we’re doing with Hannah,” said Campbell, “is trying to help people have a better life.”

Campbell said he looked at the major reasons 38 per cent of American households don't have pets and tried to tailor Hannah to address those issues. For a monthly fee, Hannah clients can lease a pet, the "Total Lifetime Care" program includes any and all needed veterinary care, emergency medical care, prescriptions, flea control, dental care, microchip and registration, spay/neuter, licensing, Canine Good Citizen Training for adult dogs, socialization & obedience classes for young dogs, behavior training/advice/support whenever needed, individualized nutrition plans, pet food delivered to your door every month, bath/brushes, boarding services and more.
