Nova Scotia's Catman Awarded Queen's Medal

Pierre Filiatreault, rose to national attention working with feral cats at Canadian Forces Base, Halifax. He was recently awarded The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for this activity by the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, the Honourable J. J. Grant, Brigadier-General, CMM, ONS, CD (Ret'd).

"The Catman" is widely recognized for the tenacity and enthusiasm he brought to the plight of Dockyard Cats on eastern Canada's largest naval base.  Filiatreault received a great review during the Summit for Urban Animal Strategies in 2010, however, it was activities during the Year of the Cat in 2011 that illuminated the value of managing feral cat populations along the waterfront areas of urban municipalities. Many other Canadian communities have benefited from the lessons he learned and from the valuable stories he passed to other communities with a feral cat problem.

Pierre continues his involvement as a mentor and advocate with the Atlantic Regional Conference and Urban Animal Strategies Program. Follow the adventures of The Catman on Twitter @dockyardcats.
