Introducing PuppySwap!

With a new and unorthodox campaign, the Toronto Humane Society is hoping to spread the message that pet abandonment is a serious problem in Canada.

The PuppySwap.ca campaign advertises a new website service designed to allow families to pick puppies based on 'adorability' and 'trending now' factors.

"It's the beginning of an exciting journey you'll never want to end. And now, it never has to, because the moment your puppy grows up, becomes a bother or becomes less likable, you can log back into your account and swap out your old best friend for a brand new one!"

It isn't until the end of the advertisement that the truth is revealed. PuppySwap isn't real. Pet abandonment is. The website link in the video explains that more than 180,000 pets are surrendered to Humane Societies and shelters in Canada every year and that 40% of them don't leave the system alive.

The video ad, release on YouTube on January 8, 2015, has more than 230,000 views.
