Bayer’s K9 Advantix II has Joined Forces with K9s For Warriors

Bayer’s K9 Advantix II is supporting K9s For Warriors with a three month campaign that allows dog owners to provide assistance to K9s For Warriors when people purchase Bayer’s K9 Advantix II. This is the second year for the partnership. When pet owners buy a package of K9 Advantix II, Bayer will donate $1 to K9s For Warriors to a maximum of $150,000. Bayer’s K9 Advantix II will also support the adoption and training of 10 service dogs in 2015.

According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs approximately 20% of post 9/11 veterans suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Symptoms of PTSD include flashbacks, memory problems, self-destructive behaviour, and suicide. Symptoms of TBI are concentration difficulties, difficulty speaking, and emotional and behavioural changes.

K9s For Warriors is a nonprofit organization that pairs trained shelter dogs with veterans afflicted by post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injury. K9s For Warriors selects dogs from shelters and trains the dogs at their facility to become service dogs. Once the dogs are trained, they are matched with veterans in need of help. Once gaining a service dog, 92% of veterans are able to decrease or stop their medications. The program has a 96% success rate which the program attributes to their requirement for new service dog owners to live and train with their dogs at the K9s For Warriors facility before taking the dog home.

Bayer releases 2014 Q1 Financial Report

Bayer released its first quarter financial report this week and the pharmaceutical company is reporting encouraging growth in its sales and earnings.

Gross cash flow in the first quarter of 2014 rose by 13.3% to €2,048 million due to the improvement in EBITDA. Net cash flow, however, declined to €163 million because more cash was tied up in working capital.

Net financial debt rose from €6.7 billion on December 31, 2013, to €9.1 billion on March 31, 2014. This increase was driven by the acquisition of Algeta ASA, Norway.

Sales of the Animal Health Division rose by 8.0% to €330 million. Business with our Advantage™ line of flea, tick and worm control products developed particularly well.

Bayer continues positive business momentum

The Bayer Group continued its positive business momentum in the third quarter of 2013 with substantial contributions from the Life Science, Healthcare and CropScience sectors.

"Healthcare registered encouraging growth, largely due to the outstanding sales performance for our new pharmaceutical products," said Bayer Management Board Chairman, Dr. Marijn Dekkers.

After currency and portfolio adjustments, reported sales of the Bayer Group grew by 6.0%. Earnings before interest and tax improved by a substantial 47.5% to EUR 1,221 million. Gross cash flow moved ahead by 35.9% to EUR 1,367 million, mainly as a result of the significant improvement in EBIT. Net cash flow fell by 13.0% to EUR 1,728 million because less working capital was released than in the prior-year quarter. Net financial debt declined from EUR 9.0 billion on June 30, 2013 to EUR 7.7 billion on Sept. 30, 2013, largely as a result of cash inflows from operating activities.

Year of the Cat booth at OVMA/AAHA garners lots of interest

Dr. Elizabeth Obrien provides yet another interview in front of the Year of the Cat booth at Canada's largest gathering of animal health stakeholders in Toronto last week.

This national initiative arose out of the International Summit for Urban Animal Strategies in 2009 which focused on the plight of cats in our communities.

This is the first Summit program to embrace all stakeholders and to be supported by all four sectors of the industry Animal Welfare, Animal Health and Wellness, Animal Control and Enforcement, and Animal Services.

PetLynx, Petsecure, PetSmart Charities and Ontario SPCA were the initial sponsors of this initiative, but it has now found widespread support across the industry led by the tireless efforts of Dr. Obrien, Judi Cannon, PetLynx and Mika Sanson, PetSecure as well as Kate McDonald and her ever helpful colleagues at Ontario SPCA. Brand affiliations include Iams by Procter and Gamble and Profender by Bayer who have added their resources to promote this program across Canada.

The OVMA/AAHA booth was resourced by Judi Cannon, Dr. Liz and the wonderful Stephanie Johns of the Ontario SPCA.  To read more about this initiative or to bring the Year of the Cat program to your community please visit Care for Cats or contact  judi.cannon@petlynxmail.com
