TravelCenters of America Welcomes 'Four-Legged Friends' to All of Its Locations
TravelCenters of America LLC ("TA") is adding to its full-service benefits by welcoming back-seat drivers of the furry kind to all travel centers within the TA and Petro Stopping Centers network.
Drivers will see a designated pet area at each location, inviting them to let their pets stretch their legs. And, while the canine and feline species can't be allowed inside, drivers can find a growing area of pet products on our travel store shelves.
"A lot of truckers take their pets on the road," said Tom O'Brien, President and CEO of TA. "We recognize the need for drivers to have a place where they and their pets are welcome," he added. Mr. O'Brien's dog, Smokey, added, "Woof!"
Taking full-service to an even higher level, the Iowa 80 TA in Walcott, Iowa even has a 24- Hour self-serve Dogomat™ Pet Wash next to the Truckomat(R) Truck Wash.

The Jet Set: Pet version
Further to our previous post on the new CMA's vote to ban pets from the cabins. Pet airways offers travel alternatives for pet parents.
Travelling with a pet can be a traumatic experience for both the pet and their parents. With the recent CMA vote to ban pets from aircraft cabins it looks like they will be forced to travel with the cargo and exposed to the cold, lowered oxygen levels and general discomfort.
For pet parents, subjecting a member of their family to these conditions will not be easy choice to make. But, alternatives are available, with the airline Pet Airways pets are not considered an additional cargo item. Not only do pets travel in the cabin, they are not forced to share the cabin with pesky humans. It is an expensive option, but given the popularity of luxury pet goods and services, it appeals to a growing consumer class.
According to the website:
You see, on Pet Airways, your pets aren't packages, they're “Pawsengers.” And every step of the journey, we'll take care of them as if they were our own.
These “pawsengers” are looked after by an in-flight Pet Attendant at all times and travel in a large enclosure within a cabin-controlled cabin with fresh, cool air.
About The PAWS Pet Company
The PAWS Pet Company, Inc. provides innovative pet services. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Pet Airways, is the only airline specifically designed for the safe and comfortable transportation of pets. Pet Airways' Pawsengers™ travel in the specially equipped main cabin of its planes - where pets are continuously monitored by an In-Flight Pet Attendant and the climate is controlled for maximum pet comfort. With Pet Airways, pet parents can be assured their pets will be treated with tender, loving care by pet professionals throughout the journey. The airline launched flight operations in 2009 and currently serves coast-to-coast destinations across the United States, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Omaha, Chicago, Baltimore, New York, Atlanta and Ft. Lauderdale. The Company has also announced its upcoming expansion to Orlando, Dallas, Austin, Houston and St. Louis.

Survey of Pet Families shows 60 percent traveled with pets during 2010
Summer Travel Trends:
Summer pet travel trends remained steady from 2010's survey, with 58 percent of people surveyed during the month of April indicating they planned to travel with their pets within the next three months (as compared to 57 percent in 2010). Monthly travel frequency varied slightly from 2010. The number of people who travel monthly fell from 38 percent in 2010 to 22 percent in 2011. Fifty-seven percent (57 percent) of respondents indicated they still travel at least once a year with pets.
First Class Tastes:
The majority of pet owners (48 percent) indicated they spend less than $500 annually on pet travel-related products and services. However, nearly thirty percent of pet owners (28 percent) said they spend $1000 or more each year on products and services for pet travel.
Improved Outlook on Airline Pricing:
In 2010, over a third of respondents (38 percent) found airline pet travel fees to be prohibitively expensive. This year's survey found only 18 percent view airline fees as too expensive. For 2011, the majority of respondents' concerns (32 percent) cited an unsatisfactory selection of pet-friendly hotels.
Pet-Friendly Influence Rising:
Those who chose to stay at hotels because they are pet-friendly jumped by 10 percent from 2010 to 2011, with 78 percent of respondents indicating they had stayed at a hotel because it allowed pets or was considered to be "pet-friendly." Pet-friendly airlines also grew in influence, with the majority of pet owners (58 percent, up from 45 percent in 2010) saying they had chosen to fly on an airline because it was "pet-friendly."
