HEALTH - AVMA Offers Scholarships to Veterinary Leadership Conference

The AVMA is inviting veterinarians to grow and network with their peers at the 2017 Veterinary Leadership Conference and is offering scholarships to potential attendees.

The meeting provides three days of networking and workshop opportunities designed for veterinarians and other veterinary professionals.

Leadership sessions and networking opportunities provide a foundation for veterinary professionals who want to contribute to and shape the veterinary profession, and develop skills that can be used in professional and personal pursuits.

Selected sessions provide continuing education credits.

Ten scholarships of $1,000 are available for AVMA members interested in developing their leadership potential.

To qualify for the scholarships, applicants must be AVMA members who fall into at least one of these categories:
  • Emerging Leader – Individual who graduated from veterinary school within the past 15 years.
  • Under-represented in Veterinary Leadership – Veterinarian from a demographic, geographic, or socioeconomic group or practice type that is underrepresented in U.S. veterinary leadership.

The application deadline is November 16, 2016. Recipients will be selected and notified by December 1, 2016.

The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, January 12-14, 2017.

National Animal Welfare Conference

Focused on Building a Humane Canada in 2016, the 3rd Annual National Animal Welfare Conference takes place April 16th - 19th in Toronto. 

Presented by the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies, the conference appeals to individuals who work with a humane society, SPCA, animal rescue, advocacy group, in animal control, conservation, with an academic institution or the government – or are just interested in animal welfare. 

A variety of speakers from across the country will share their expertise. Learning tracks include:
  • Cats Count in Canada
  • Sheltering for Change
  • Farm Animal Welfare
  • Advocacy and Building Humane Communities
  • Animal Cruelty and Intervention
  • Improving Canine Access to Care 

A travel grant is available that will cover up to 75% of transportation costs for a lucky applicant. Application deadline is February 26th.


Early bird registration is open until March 1st.

OSPCA 3-day Conference Boasts Exciting Line-up

In less than one week, the Ontario SPCA Educational Conference will take place at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel from June 10-12, 2012.

This three-day event will bring together Animal Welfare experts from across Canada to enhance the collaboration between associations in the Industry to advance the future of Animal Welfare, not only in Ontario, but across North America.

Highlights for this year's event:
  • For the first time, the OSPCA will be welcoming the ASPCA to the conference. The ASPCA will be holding a session on Sunday afternoon.
  • Mrs. Laureen Harper, a Foster Parent for the Ottawa Humane Society and all-round animal lover, will be speaking to all delegates about her involvement in Animal Welfare.
