Tablets will have the quickest “multi-anything” market penetration in history as Canadians continue to buy them in 2012, even if they already have one, according to Deloitte’s 11th annual global Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Predictions 2012. Android's share of tablet market jumps

According to a report appearing on the BBC, the Android operating system's share of the global tablet computer market has risen sharply at the expense of Apple's iOS.
Android accounted for 39% of the market in the final three months of last year, up from 29% a year earlier, Strategy Analytics said. Apple's share fell to 58% from 68%.
Microsoft's share stood at 1.5%.
Shipments of tablets reached 26.8 million in the quarter, up from 10.7 million a year ago.
"Demand for tablets among consumer, business and education users remains strong," said Strategy Analytics' Peter King.
Apple shipped 15.4 million iPads between October and December. That compares with shipments of 10.5 million tablets using Android.
For 2011 as a whole, shipments hit 66.9 million, up from 18.6 million in 2010.

CRTC says Canadians becoming more attached to Internet, smartphones.
Canadians are turning off their televisions and cutting their land lines in favour of online streaming and smartphones in record numbers, Canada's telecommunications regulator flags in a recent report.

The number of mobile phone subscribers is expected to reach 29.5 million by 2014, representing a penetration rate of 85 per cent. By then, smartphones will account for half of all mobile handsets in Canada, up from 31 per cent in 2009.
And by next spring, the percentage of Canadians with tablets is expected to double in a single year, to 10 per cent, according to consumer trends...

BLACKBERRY PLAYBOOK COMING TO CANADA AND THE US ON 19 APRIL 2011
Research In Motion (RIM) has announced plans to make the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet available in more than 20,000 retail outlets in the US and Canada beginning April 19. The ultra-portable device, measuring 10mm thick and weighing 425g, features a vivid 17-centimetre high-resolution touchscreen display. It also offers support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1, true multitasking, HD multimedia, advanced security features, and out-of-the-box enterprise support.
The BlackBerry PlayBook with Wi-Fi will be available in three models (16, 32 and 64 GB) at a manufacturer's suggested retail price starting at $499 in the US and Canada. RIM will also launch two optional "app players" that will allow users to download BlackBerry Java apps and Android v2.3 apps from BlackBerry App World and run them on their BlackBerry PlayBook.
The lineup of retailers and wireless carriers currently expected to carry the BlackBerry PlayBook in Canada includes: Bell; Best Buy; Chapters/Indigo; Costco; Future Shop; Mobilicity; MTS Allstream; Rogers; Sasktel; Sears; ShopBlackBerry.com; Staples; TELUS; Tbooth Wireless; The Source; Videotron; Walmart; WIND Mobile; WIRELESS etc.; and WIRELESSWAVE.

ROBERT HALF Reports on Increased use of Tablets
A recent survey developed by Robert Half Technology, a provider of IT professionals on a project and full-time basis, reveals that four in 10 (40%) of CIOs said their companies will increase the use of tablets in the next two years. The survey was conducted by an independent research firm and is based on telephone interviews with more than 270 CIOs from companies across Canada with 100 or more employees.
