This survey will close Wednesday, 16 September at midnight MST. Finalists will be announced early October and winners will be announced during the 2015 Summit Awards Gala, 16 October.

The 2015 Summit Award elections will be accomplished in four polls of 2-3 categories. Each poll will take about 3 minutes. Voting for the 2015 Summit Awards is by secret ballot using the YourSAY™ electronic polling system.

New 2014 Summit for Pet Owner of the Year nominees

Two nominees vie for the Urban Animal Industry's highest award in the Pet Owner of the Year category: 

1. Candace McLaren is nominated for her commitment to helping rescue dogs. Candace adopted her first dog, a pug, in 2000. Since then, she has adopted three more pugs and fostered 24 for Pugalug Rescue. She also spends 5-10 hours per week volunteering for Pugalug. 
2. Susan Thixton is nominated for providing a nutritious voice for pet owners. Through her blogs, newsletters and books, Thixton has been an inspiration to many around the world. Today she holds an advisory position on two AAFCO committees and works every day to ensure pet food is safe. 

New in 2014, the Pet Owner of the Year Summit recognizes a pet owner that has demonstrated a mindful approach to pet ownership and the ability to think beyond themselves to create a better environment for all urban animals.

The 2014 Health & Wellness Summit features innovative nominations

Two nominees vie for the Urban Animal Industry's highest award in the Health & Wellness category: 

1. Medric Cousineau, Paws Fur Thought is nominated for his efforts with PTSD Service Dogs. By educating all levels of government, landlords and business owners, pet industry staff and the general public, Cpt. Cousineau has improved the working and living conditions for both dogs and their handlers. 
2. Dr. Liz O'Brien, Cat Healthy Canada is nominated for developing an initiative to help cats receive the healthcare they need to live longer, healthier lives. The Cat Healthy website includes preventative healthcare protocols - an important milestone in the evolution of Canadian feline medicine. 

The Summit for Health and Wellness recognizes the efforts of an organization to improve the overall levels of health and wellness for urban animals in a specific community, area of intervention or industry sector.

Breeder of the Year Summit nominees demonstrate excellent values

Two nominees vie for the Urban Animal Industry's highest award in the Breeder of the Year category: 

1. Colette Francis, Pooch Palace Kennels is nominated for her involvement in the world of canine breeding, grooming and canine/feline boarding over the past 40 years. In addition to creating the now popular Bichon/Shih-Tzu cross, Francis mentors several local breeders on business and philosophical  elements. 
2. Sybille Brochu, Ellibyse Puppies is nominated for her dedication to animal health and educating breeders. The Ellibyse Puppies facility is regularly inspected by vets and received a perfect MAPAQ score. It surpasses requirements of codes of practice for Canadian Kennel operations with spacious indoor parks, heated floors, condos and exercise areas.   

The Summit Award for Breeder of the Year  recognizes a breeder of companion animals with five or more years of breeding experience that is compliant with recognized codes of ethical conduct or the Urban Animal Certified Quality Mark and demonstrates an exemplary level of professionalism.
